You will receive weekly updates about our upcoming races, results, etc. This information will also be posted to the front page of Quimby Oak's website as well.  Please take a moment to fill this out as it will greatly help with coach to parent communication: CLICK HERE

Practice will be held 4-5 days per week and are generally after school from 2:10 to about 3:15 pm. We will also have an optional morning practice on Wednesdays due to weekly staff meetings after school. A practice schedule will be posted on our website and passed out at practice. The season is about six weeks long going to early October. Note: This week's temperature are expected to be very warm. Practices will be adjusted accordingly. Please be sure to hydrate throughout the day!

RACE SCHEDULE:

We are in the process of finalizing the race schedule and plan to post by the end of the week. Our first meet is Thursday, September 7th at Guadalupe Oak Grove Park in San Jose. More information will be sent home with students and via email so please be sure to sign up for our team e-mail list.

TRAINING:

Our goal is promote the love of running and to build a foundation of fitness. We will start easy and slowly increase lengths of runs. Races will be about two miles and our training runs will max out at about three miles for most runners.

7th grade art students created Dream Catchers, an art form crafted by many Native American nations and tribes. Students secured artificial sinew to a hoop frame and wove a pattern in a radial spiral to simulate a spider’s web, leaving the center open to allow good dreams to slip through. Some students decorated the strands that hung from their hoop with colorful feathers while others attached special artifacts.

http://www.planetozkids.com/oban/legends/more-about-dreamcatchers.htm

This study to cultural art continued to an exploration of weaving, like the sweet grass and pine needle baskets created by West African artist Mary Jackson. Students formed coil bowls of various sizes by connecting rolled tubes of colorful magazine pages. They completed this assignment by filling their woven vessels with messages that represent their aspirations and dreams.

We are excited to participate in a very important donation drive to help Aly, one of our former Evergreen School District students. Aly attended Norwood Creek Elementary School and Quimby Oak Middle School before she went on to high school and then proudly graduated from San Jose State University.

Sadly, Aly has been diagnosed with a form of late stage cancer.

During the Month of May, Quimby is standing together with other Evergreen Schools to Fill the Bucket with Love and Loose Change for Aly! as we help her fight through this very difficult time of her life. All donations will be used to directly assist Aly with her mounting medical costs and living expenses.

So during the month of May Let’s Come Together and Fill the Bucket with Love and Loose Change for Aly!

QUIMBY OAK NOTICE

We are constructing a new two story building on the Quimby campus. Site work is scheduled to begin March 13, 2017, and the building is scheduled to be completed by the middle of July, 2017. The new building will have six classrooms for the new Lobo School of Innovation with a quad area. It will be a great addition to the campus and will serve our students and teachers well.

Construction will create a change in drop off and pick up.  Please be patient as we make necessary adjustments for everyone’s safety.  The yellow drop off and pick up area will be relocated and significantly reduced. You may wish to make alternative plans for drop off and pick up for the remainder of the year.  We will continue to keep you updated with any necessary adjustments.  If you have any questions regarding this project, please contact the district office at 408.270.6800.  Thank you

Quimby oak Middle School will participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) on March 8, 2017. NAEP is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what students know and can do in various subjects. It is administered by the National Center for Education Statistics, within the U.S. Department of Education. NAEP is different from our state assessment because it provides a common measure of student achievement across the country. The results are released as The Nation's Report Card, which provides information about student achievement to educators, parents, policymakers, and the public.

A selected amount of Quimby students will take an assessment in one of the following subjects: civics, geography, mathematics, reading, U.S. history, or writing.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Assistant Principal Kyle Sanchez

Dear Parent or Guardian,

I am writing to invite you to provide your valuable feedback to help us improve your child’s school and classroom experiences. So that we can hear from you, we have asked YouthTruth – a nonprofit organization whose student survey is nationally recognized and has been used in hundreds of schools and districts across the county – to conduct an anonymous survey on our behalf.

The survey will take about 15 minutes to complete, and needs to be completed in one sitting. We ask that one member of each household fill out the survey.

If you write any comments, please don’t include your name or anything else that might identify you. Your responses are anonymous, and they will be combined with the responses of other parents and guardians before being shared back with our school and district leadership.

If you have more than one child who attends this school, please respond to the survey multiple times - one time per child.

You may take the survey anytime between now and February 17th by clicking this link: http://www.evergreenfamily17.ytsurvey.org.

We sincerely thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. Your response is incredibly valuable to us.

If you have any questions about the survey, or our plans for how we will use your feedback, please contact Kyle Sanchez at ksanchez@eesd.org or call (408) 270-6735.

Sincerely,

Kyle Sanchez
